This obi is for yukata (it came with my strawberry yukata as a freebie, as did my purple hanao geta) and is supposed to be a pre-tied hanhaba obi, but it's really ornate and in colors I wear often, so I'm going to try wearing it with my synthetic komon and iromuji (the last of which is definitely not proper, but... My reasoning is that the fanciness of the obi raises its formality, while the syntheticness of the iromuji lowers its formality, so hopefully they'll be kind of close? ^^; Mainly it will just save time getting dressed- my otaiko doesn't like me. @_@ ) This was previously modified with fancy fabric a long time ago to match my furisode- but I decided a few days ago that the fabric was incongruous and since the original colors match the kimono I wear more often + it still wasn't really furisode-appropriate, I took the extra layers of fabric off.

Actually bright dark blue- the camera ate the color. I bought this from an antique store a few years ago. It has a dimensional weave, is semi-transparent and has the weirdest-feeling texture I've ever felt... I'd love to know what this obi is made out of- polyester, perhaps? It came with a group of possibly pre-WWII kimono items from someone's estate, so it might be quite old; I'm not sure. Either way, I like it alot, even if it is kind of weird...

Mom and I sewed this a long time ago based on rough measurements from a previously-purchased fukuro obi. Unfortunately, it doesn't match a single kimono I own. I really love the fabric, though... I'm guessing that the formality of awkwardly-sewn cotton fukuro obi is somewhere around komon? :/ But a komon ensemble + this obi would be a busy, busy thing... TT_TT I still love the fabric, though... I found it on sale at Hancock's a long time ago and bought the entire bolt since it was so cute... It has STRAWBERRIES on it!

My newest pre-tied obi. I prefer normal obi, but... It's a Heian lady, wearing a junihitoe, in the murasaki-no-usuyou color scheme (although a few redundant layers aren't shown- but it's obvously murasaki no usuyou!) It's a bit more pinkish than the white I would prefer- but this also means that it won't turn a gross tan color years from now, so... Love. X3

X3 Bought from an American seller for $10.00 USD + shipping. No one else bid, and the item was just labeled as being a kimono obi. It's a completely reversible maru obi, and the motifs seem to be Taisho Roman (note the Western playing cards on one side.) I had been needing a maru obi, but they were all so expensive. @_@ Not knowing what else to do, I prayed for one... Hence my $10.00 obi with only local shipping costs. And it has botan! X3 Yay!!! Bit by bit, my plans for Taisho-era geisha henshin are coming together. X3 Fwahahaha...

Bought at Antique RyuJapan. They do 50% off sales from time to time, so it pays to get on their email list. X3 I keep bookmarks of what I want, and then wait for the sales... I love violet roses, so this hanhaba obi was a must, and it will probably go well with my purple rose komon.

I bought this one from babymoti, who carries all sorts of rare kimono items for reasonable prices.
I love ocean-themed motifs on kimono, but they're so rare! D: This obi is a dream come true, and I'm hoping to eventually get one of those somewhat-common kurotomesode with gold waves at the hem to pair it with. I think that a Nagoya obi is technically too informal for a kurotomesode, but it would look SO GOOD together, and most of the people in my area aren't strict about formality rules...
